HACK OF THE WEEK: Cutting Onions Without Crying

Hate cutting onions because of all the tears? Lifehacker tested some of the most common tricks people use to avoid eye irritation while cutting onions and found that these work the best:

Cut onions under a vent. Try placing your cutting board atop your stove and turn on your overhead vent or microwave ventilation fan.

Wear goggles.

Freeze the onion beforehand.

Soak the onion in water first. This method is recommended if your recipe works with a milder onion taste.

Cut under running water. This could get messy, but it will save you all those tears.
