Aretha Franklin is awarded a very special Pulitzer

The late Aretha Franklin is being honored with a very special award. The Queen of Soul has been chosen to receive a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation, “for her indelible contribution to American music and culture for more than five decades.”

Aretha is now the first individual woman to earn a special citation prize since the group started handing them out back in 1930.  Previous Special Citation Awards have been given to such artists as Hank Williams, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane and Bob Dylan.
